The geological map covers the area from Öxarfjörður in the north to Fremrinámar in the south. The map shows the main geological features, the oldest being of Miocene age and the youngest from the Krafla fires in 1975-1984. The key tectonic features are shown along with the main deglaciational structures of the area. The map includes a total of 61 lava flows, which have been divided into 7 age groups with the aid of tephrochronology.
This map is the product of several previous maps in larger scales created by ÍSOR and its´ predecessor, the National Energy Authority, for various customers but also applying simplified maps in smaller scales. These data were revised, and new data aquired in the field added.
The back side has descriptions and photographs of the most important geological wonders of the area. Text is both in Icelandic and English.

The map is in the scale of 1:100 000 and is based on several maps in the scales 1:20 000 – 1:50 000 made by ÍSOR and its forerunner, National Energy Authority, for different customers. The maps have been simplified, revised and filled in with new geological mapping. The oldest units on the map are 4 million years old and the youngest are lavas from an eruption on Reykjanes peninsula in the years 1211-1240 A.D. Altogether there are about 160 different lava flows on the map. 40 selected sites of interest are pointed out with further description on our webpage.

GEOTHERMAL POWER MAP - GEOTHERMAL POWER GENERATION FIELDS
The map was created using data from various sources. Background, place names and boundaries are from the Natural Earth Data & Etopo2. Locations of geothermal sites are compiled by ThinkGeoEnergy and Iceland GeoSurvey. Production capacity is from the International Geothermal Association (IGA) database.
The map is currently only available in a limited number of copies, but might be available for sale in the near future.
